Adobe 99U - “Hi, it's me Steffi Lynn!” Zine Project

Hi, it's me Steffi Lynn! After attending Adobe's 99U Conference, I was inspired to create a little booklet that showcases my unique creative skills!

I attended Meg Lewis's Full Time You workshop that helped me highlight bits and parts of who I am and what I liked to do as a creative.

I started this process by listing the skills that I have and what I can offer. Then I circled and revised my wording to be more fun and in my voice! Such as “plant lover” and “designs and things and stuff.”

Next I used Adobe Sketch on my iPad to create a color palette. Then the sketching begins!  After creating the first page, I reused some icons and elements on all the other pages. I wanted the book to feel cohesive on all the pages but not too uniform. I exported all the files to Adobe Photoshop to edit anything that seemed like it needed transformation.

From there, I imported everything to Adobe InDesign to create the booklet! Yay! Lastly, I did some test prints and TADA! My booklet!

I wanted to create this booklet to show how there is no other me but me. The conference's theme, the Creative Future, made me think a lot about how this industry is changing in so many different ways. But it also made me question myself as a creative and how I can evolve with the changes. At the conference, Dr. Vivienne Ming spoke about the fundamentals of creativity, Zach Leiberman reminded me to capture everything I do, and Kyle T. Webster taught me that boredom is a blessing.

Dr. Vivienne Ming shared that creativity is having the courage to share our vision, to have meaning in life and to say what we believe. I thought about what my meaning in life was and that was to create work that makes people happy and feel positive.

Leiberman mentioned that if you do something over and over again you will make shortcuts and those shortcuts will become your style. Looking at my work, I realized my "style" is lettering, colors and fun.

Finally, Kyle T. Webster said to let boredom be a blank canvas for our minds, to resist the urge to fill that emptiness when we are on the verge of boredom. So, while I was staring off into space on the subway, thinking about who I am as a creative... I decided to make myself a book. A book to remind myself and others what I can do and who I am! I created this booklet that showcases who I am, what my skills are and what I can do for YOU! (and for me cause these things make me happy!)
